Your Surface Pro is configured to automatically set itself up with minimal interaction required from you. Follow through these steps to get your new device ready to use.

  1. Unbox your Surface Pro and protective case, and put the device in the case. Unbox and connect the keyboard cover. Flip the stand out to stand your Surface Pro up. Plug in the charger and turn it on.
  2. Select the language - this should default to English (UK) so you can just click Yes.
  3. Select the region - again this should default to UK
  4. Additional keyboard layout - press Skip
  5. Connecting to the network - select the AKS-Wireless network and click Connect. Enter your school username (e.g. kanicholson) and password
  6. When asked this, click Connect
  7. Now your Surface Pro will set a few things up. This step takes a minute or two, and it will then restart.
  8. At the welcome screen, enter your school e-mail address and click Next. You will be taken to the authentication screen (showing the school photo) to enter your password.
  9. Your device will now complete setup. This step may take up to half an hour depending on how many apps have been configured for your device.
  10. You should eventually be presented with the logon screen - log in with your school e-mail address and password.
  11. Your device will need to finish setting things up - this may take a while if there are any large apps which have been assigned specifically to you (rather than to the device).
  12. You may be asked to set up Windows Hello. There are a couple of parts to Windows Hello - facial recognition, fingerprint (not supported on Surface Pro) and PIN. The facial recognition is optional but you will need to set a PIN - this can be {REQUIREMENTS HERE}.
Windows Hello takes the data (either facial recognition or PIN) and uses it to create a key. This key is stored on your device only and can only be used to unlock your specific device.
If you don't want to set up facial recognition you can click Skip near the bottom left.
  13. Now you'll be asked to set up a PIN. Click on Next to begin.
  14. As this is creating a strong authentication method, you'll be prompted to authenticate either via Authenticator app, or whatever other authentication method you have set up on your account.
  15. Finally enter a PIN twice - you can use letters if you wish by ticking the box.
  16. Once you've completed and logged on, it will take a few minutes for OneDrive and other various services to initialise.
